Fritz's World

An exciting and awe-inspiring glimpse into my life: movie reviews (which are replete with spoilers), Penn State football, Washington Nationals, and life here in the nation's capital. Can you handle it?

An open letter to David Jones

Dear Mr. Jones,

Before you publish your column in tomorrow's Patriot, I humbly make one request of you: please don't. Instead, I ask that you take a step back and give Penn State fans their dignity, because tonight, all fans of the blue and white are in pain. We know that our hopes of an undefeated season died tonight. We know that we played clumsily and weakly. We know that we'll likely drop to #9 (at best!) in the polls. In short, we know how badly we mucked it up for ourselves. And I ask that you please give Penn State alumni and fans their dignity by not pointing all this out in tomorrow's Patriot.

Sincerely,

A heartbroken Penn Stater

The dignity of two Penn State alums in my house is not determined by a newspaper columnist. We are heartbroken of course, but we would still have our dignity if the score was 73-0 Iowa.

If you don't like him, don't read him.

What you say is true.

But remember that there was also a time when the Patriot didn't have three Penn State writers like it does now. So for many years, I didn't have the choice of not reading David Jones' columns.

And even when Penn State would win a hard-fought, well-deserved game, his columns would always find a way to rain on our parade. Same for whenever Penn State performed badly. So that's why I asked him to, essentially, give us a break this week.
